Spring Forward with 10 Year Lithium Battery Smoke Alarms

Smoke alarms play a crucial role in the event of a fire. They are designed to detect smoke and signal you a warning to escape your home quickly and safely. To be prepared in the event of a fire, everyone should have smoke alarms installed in their home. Smoke alarms should be placed on every level of the home and outside each sleeping area. Avoid placing them near the kitchen, as the possibility for false alarms will increase. Those who are hard of hearing or are deaf can acquire a special alarm that can flash and shake the bed. Test your smoke alarms once a month and replace the unit itself once every 10 years.

This weekend is spring forward, and instead of changing our batteries in our 9-Volt alarms, let’s go out and purchase a sealed 10 year lithium battery operated smoke alarm! By doing so, you are meeting Maryland’s updated smoke alarm law, which requires you to replace any battery-only operated alarms with sealed units with the 10-year lithium battery.
