"Spring" Into the New Season With Fire Safety

Happy Fire Safety Friday!

Spring is finally here! To kick off the new season, let’s go over some important safety tips as you begin your Spring cleaning! Remove any hazards that are present in your home. Be sure to check for any frayed appliance cords, wires or any damaged breakers. Also c

heck to see if your home has any water leaks, especially leaks around appliances. Recycle any paper debris such as old magazines or newspaper to eliminate the risk of a fire. Always keep in mind that you should keep combustible materials at least three feet from portable space heaters.

Properly store flammable liquids in a cool, dry place outside of the home. Always keep chemicals out of the reach of children and pets. If a child does come in contact with a chemical, call the poison hotline immediately at 1-800-222-1222. Take caution when using different cleaners, as mixing chemicals can produce toxic fumes. An easy way to prevent this is by reading the label on the container!

Now that the colder weather is behind us, get your family together and practice your fire escape plans! Be sure to have two ways out of every room and know where your designated meeting place is!
