Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!

Happy Fire Prevention Week 2017! This year Fire Prevention Week theme emphasizes the importance of Home Fire Escape Planning in your home.

Be sure to keep these tips in mind when planning:

  • Draw a map of your home with all members of your family. Be sure to mark TWO exits out of each room and a path to the outside from each exit.

  • Practice your home fire drill at least twice a year. Have one during the day and one at night to practice different ways out of your home.

  • Teach children how to escape on their own in case a parent or guardian is not around to help them.

  • Make sure your house number is clearly visible from the road for emergency personnel.

  • Close doors as you leave, this will help slow the spread of fire and smoke.

  • Get out and stay out! Never go back inside of a burning building.
