NFPA Fire Prevention Week 2018
In June of 2018, NFPA announced this year's theme for Fire Prevention Week.
"Look, Listen, Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere."
The 2018 theme focuses on three main steps to preventing a fire and knowing what to do if one occurs.
"Look"
Look around for places that fire could start, or potential fire hazards. Clean up clutter that could fuel a fire if it starts or hinders an escape. Be sure to not leave cooking unattended.
"Listen"
Listen for the sound of a smoke alarm. When a smoke alarm sounds, be sure to get out of the building in a quick and safe manner.
"Learn"
Make a fire escape plan in your home and practice. Know two ways out of every room and have an assigned meeting place outside and away from the home.
As we continue to approach Fire Prevention week in October, we will add to our "Look, Listen, Learn" techniques so we can best equip ourselves against fire.
